First LaFortune double
Posted on 04. May, 2008 by Brad in Training
Today is the first time I’ve made it more than one loop around LaFortune Park. Usually I burn myself out near the end of the loop and decide to just stop after three miles. So I throttled it back for the first two miles but was feeling good so pushed the pace just slightly. I made sure I held pace as much as I could, even on the uphills, and near the 2.5 mile mark, I was feeling really great.
I finished the first loop and decided not to stop and just keep going. It was smooth cruising the rest of the way and I wasn’t feeling tired at all. I didn’t expect the run to go near as well since I had some minor pain in the top of my right foot for about 15 minutes. It eventually went away but had me worried.
Of course today was also the first day I didn’t take my watch with me. Not that I really care about setting speed records, but it would have been good to know what pace I was actually holding. It was probably slower than I think but at least the run felt great.

Hey Brad! Where ya been? Either you’re off on some epic adventure, or that terrible thing called “work” has gotten in your way. I vote for the adventure thing.

Both partially true. I have had a solid week of work travel in May and then a vacation in the Smoky Mountains (where I should have run lots of hills but I did not). I’m back on the trails now, usually at Riverside, but I have to step it up if I’m going to be prepared for Lake Tahoe 50M.

Better get with that training. Tahoe is tough….nice but tough. I’ll be hitting Riverside every Saturday morning for the next several weeks leading a marathon training group. I’ll take the slowbies so I can have fun instead of doing speed work! Makes for perfect ultra training.
Actually, I am wanting to get a long run organized for sometime in late June. I wanna go from my house at 67th and Elwood north on the river trail to 11th st, and then take the trail on the east side of the river to Jenks, and than on the Creek Turnpike trail all the way to NSU, and then back home. Of course, I wanna do it at night, and would have several ice chests stashed along the way. Brain and Kathy are in, and Johnny Spriggs will probably do all or part of it. I would like as many people who want to, come along for at least a few miles. I’ll put some info on my blog about it as it gets closer.
